ASBC Applauds Nomination for HHS Secretary

Today, ASBC released a statement calling on the Senate Finance Committee to approve Sylvia Burwell’s nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Burwell, who originally ran the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), would replace Kathleen Sebelius in the position if confirmed. The Finance Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Wednesday afternoon; if successful, Burwell’s nomination would move to the full Senate for a final vote.

ASBC’s statement read in part, “Sylvia Burwell is a strong choice to lead HHS. Ms. Burwell has established her strong leadership skills as head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), including helping to achieve record budget surpluses in the late 1990s, as well as in the private and non-profit sectors. We call on the Senate Finance Committee to approve her nomination and send it to the full Senate as soon as possible.”
