Net Neutrality is One Step Closer to Reality in California: SB 822 Was Passed by the State Assembly

Yesterday, the California State Assembly passed SB 822 by a vote of 58-17. This means that net neutrality protections are one step closer to being re-implemented. The bill will now go back to the State Senate for a vote next week. The Senate had passed a previous edition of the bill back in May, so we are hopeful that the outcome will be the same this time around.

ASBC and our members have supported SB 822 because it is a responsible and comprehensive bill that will reinstate the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) 2015 open internet order and provide the California Attorney General with the authority to enforce those rules. Strong net neutrality rules and their enforcement are key to maintaining a fair and open internet, which is paramount for the continued exchange of ideas, job creation, and business growth.

ASBC will continue to advocate for an inclusive internet for everyone. We encourage interested businesses to sign on to our business support statement.
