American Sustainable Business Council Named a 2016 Safer Choice Partner by EPA
One of Only Nine Organizations to Receive the Award
WASHINGTON, DC (April 28, 2016)—Today, the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), a national business advocacy group, was named a 2016 Safer Choice Partner by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Administrator McCarthy announced the winners today, and the awards will be presented at an event on May 9, 2016 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
“ASBC is honored to be recognized for promoting Safer Choice and educating businesses about this unique public-private partnership,” said David Levine, CEO and co-founder of the American Sustainable Business Council. “Working together, the business community and EPA can drive the marketplace towards cleaner and safer products.”
ASBC is being recognized for its outreach efforts, most notably, through its Companies for Safer Chemicals campaign, which introduced the program to more than 7,000 companies at the national and state levels. ASBC continues to build awareness of the Safer Choice label through social media and outreach events.
In total, McCarthy announced 24 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners for outstanding achievement in the design, manufacture, promotion and use of a range of cleaning and other household products that carry the Safer Choice label.
The voluntary Safer Choice program enables companies to demonstrate their commitment to the health of their customers and the planet. It rewards manufacturers that use ingredients in their products that meet the strict safety criteria the Safer Choice label demands. These stringent human and environmental health safety standards mean that consumers can be confident that a product’s safety claims are backed by science. According to EPA, Safer Choice currently has around 500 formulator-manufacturer partners who make more than 2,000 products for retail and institutional customers.
