Businesses Criticize Nomination of Rick Perry for Energy Secretary:
“Progress on renewable energy is under direct threat”
WASHINGTON, DC (December 13, 2016) – The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), which with its member organizations represents more than 250,000 businesses, expressed deep concern over the nomination of former Texas Governor Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy (DOE). The following statement may be attributed to David Levine, CEO and Co-founder of ASBC:
“Progress on renewable energy is under direct threat with the nomination of Rick Perry for Secretary of the Department of Energy. His close ties to the oil industry in his home state will likely lead to department policy that tilts the playing field in favor of fossil fuels. That would jeopardize the progress the nation has made towards building a world-leading renewable energy sector.
“Further, the allegations of a witchhunt for DOE employees working on climate issues by the Trump transition team is alarming. A questionnaire distributed to DOE has created the impression that the transition is seeking to stifle or outright intimidate employees who work on this issue.”
The American Sustainable Business Council advocates for policy change and informs business owners and the public about the need and opportunities for building a vibrant, sustainable economy.
