Businesses Fear Interior Nominee Will Give Public Lands to Fossil Fuel Interests
“Selling off public lands will spell doom for local economies across the country”
WASHINGTON, DC – The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), which with its member organizations represents more than 250,000 businesses, expressed concern that the nomination of Representative Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA) for Secretary of the Interior will lead to a sell-off of public lands for fossil fuel interests to exploit without oversight. The following statement may be attributed to David Levine, CEO of ASBC:
“Coal and fracking companies will now expect free rein with the nation’s public lands through the nomination of Rep. McMorris Rodgers. We are concerned that the fossil fuel industry will be encouraged to exploit these resources without meaningful oversight.
“McMorris Rodgers is a staunch advocate for giving over the stewardship of public lands to private industries that are free to ignore the long-term health of the environment. Selling off public lands will spell doom for local economies across the country that rely on the tourism and outdoor recreation industries for their survival.”
