Those of us who have been fortunate enough to experience the American coastline understand that places along the coast are some of America’s greatest treasures. Unfortunately, we are on a path that threatens our coast due to rising seas as a result of climate change. We must take action now to save our treasured coastal places and small business tourism economies for our children, grandchildren and for many generations to come.
If we are going to stop the sea level from rising six feet by the end of the century as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts will happen without action, we need leaders in Washington to take some big policy steps.
We are asking our policy makers to do two things to help save our coast. First, we are asking them to support efforts to control how much carbon is being put into the air. Carbon pollution is the biggest contributor to climate change, which triggers sea level rise. Second, we are asking them to support investments in solar, wind, and biomass energy to help transition our country to a clean energy economy. We are making some small progress in both these areas but not fast enough.
With your help, we can protect our coastal businesses, beaches and treasured places from the threat of rising sea levels. And we will have kept our obligation to future generations to preserve the natural assets of our great country for them to enjoy.
Take action, and send a letter now. Simply enter the information requested at the bottom of the next few pages and your members of Congress will hear your voice. Thank you.
