The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Director Renee Jones was a guest speaker at an ASBN webinar to discuss their proposed SEC Climate Disclosure rules. On May 12, ASBN published an op-ed in The Hill on how regenerative agriculture will have a positive impact on businesses.

On May 13, CNN published an article about the DOL's event on the Good Jobs Initiative which ASBN moderated and had multiple business members as panelists.

On May 17, ASBN published an op-ed in Impact Entrepreneur discussing how the Supreme Court is anti-business when looking at the overturning of Roe V Wade.

On May 18, BCCA published an op-ed in The Seattle Times on Indigenous co-management of the Bering Sea.

On May 19, BCCA published an op-ed in Juneau Empire discussing the actions needed to protect our fisheries. 
Working Groups
Corporate Transparency & ESG Disclosure:
The Corporate Transparency & ESG Disclosure working group met on May 11th to discuss the comment in relation to the SEC proposal on the enhancement and standardization of climate-related disclosures. The SEC comment period has been extended until June 17th and ASBN will be issuing an official comment. Regenerative Agriculture: 
In May, the Regenerative Agriculture Working Group met with Senator Cory Booker's office to discuss climate package legislation discussions, the farm bill, and an upcoming push from the Senator for the Farm System Reform Act, which focuses on moving livestock out of large environmentally destructive feedlots and towards regenerative grazing. The working group also finalized its topline priorities for the 2023 Farm Bill and will work in the next month to develop a farm bill memo for engaging Congress, businesses/farmers, and other stakeholders. 

CCPI:
The Childhood Cancer Prevention Initiative (CCPI) is continuing its work around the Protect America's Children from Toxic Pesticides Act (S.3283). ASBN is looking to gain endorsements in support of the bill. Sign ASBN's letter to reach out to your representatives here

ASBN held a webinar on reproductive rights and abortion access after publishing an op-ed about how this Supreme Court discission will hurt businesses. The webinar had three specialists in the field with Diane J. Johnson Ph.D. facilitating the conversation. Read more about the event and our op-ed here.  

ASBN and the regenerative agriculture group has been collaborating on a letter of budget priorities for the subcommittee working on agriculture. Learn more about the letter and our effort to have our voices heard to support farmers.

ASBN has partnered with multiple other organizations in order to show our support for the historical climate legislation that is being considered in Congress right now. This legislation will help reach the goal to cut carbon pollution in half this decade. Learn more about how you can support this legislation here.  

RECENT POLICY EVENTS
On May 13, ASBN partnered with the Department of Labor (DOL) to hold an event for the Good Jobs Initiative. The event consisted of a panel that had three ASBN members, and was moderated by ASBN’s Vice President of Strategy and Development, Carolyn Pincus.
