Opportunities with ASBC

Director of Policy

ASBC is looking for an accomplished, politically savvy and well-networked individual ready for the challenge of a director-level role. The person will lead our policy team in advancing a range of issues through contact with members of Congress, Congressional staff, regulatory agencies and leading advocacy organizations and coalitions.

This full time position is based in Washington DC and reports to the Vice President of Policy & Campaigns. The position involves:

Advocacy

  • Represent ASBC with Congress, Federal agencies, and state-level policymakers.
  • Develop legislative strategies to advance priority issues.
  • Seek out and/or create events (e.g. ‘fly-ins’) to advance priority issues.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with policymakers and their staffs.

Organizing

  • Build coalitions of ASBC members to advance policy priorities.
  • Lead execution of campaign tactics to engage ASBC’s members.
  • Identify new partnerships that will help advance ASBC agenda.

Campaign Strategy

  • Collaborate with ASBC Executive Team to determine ASBC strategic goals.
  • Devise campaign strategies that will secure a “win” on priority issues.
  • Collaborate with communications team to create impactful earned media.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and mentoring in ASBC's Washington, DC office.
  • Oversee staff and maintain a positive, collaborative, and productive culture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Background in politics, Capitol Hill, campaign management, and/or government affairs
  • Familiar with tactics for issue advocacy and issue campaigns
  • Can master diverse policy issues and manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborative nature, team player, self-motivated, and values-based
  • Can understand needs of different constituencies and motivate members to engage.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adept at establishing and managing strategic partnerships and coalitions.
  • Familiarity with triple bottom line businesses.

Healthcare Campaign Manager – Part-time position available

The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), a Washington, D.C. based national policy and advocacy organization is seeking a highly motivated, articulate and politically astute person to help coordinate our business focused healthcare policy campaign.

Position is based in Washington DC

The part-time position involves:

  • Developing the overall strategy for the campaign
  • Recruiting, educating and engaging businesses to support our business focused healthcare policy initiative
  • Representing the campaign at public events and private meetings.
  • Engaging with legislators at the national and state level.
  • Preparing issue briefs and other support materials
  • Assisting with fundraising and resource development.

Requirements:

  • Able to understand and articulate the healthcare system and the necessary solutions
  • Able to understand the concerns of business leaders and how to motivate them to engage in the healthcare campaign.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal and writing
  • Adept at establishing and managing strategic partnerships.
  • Background in healthcare policy
  • Able to travel periodically.
  • Some fund raising experience.
  • Minimum Bachelors Degree, 3-5 years experience in policy-related field and/or business.
